DiRK

an experimental, participatory recycling process

2016

In 2016 I was selected for a design residency in Belgium hosted by Designregio Kortrijk.

During the 3-month-residency, me and two other chosen designers (Catherine Oldershaw & Guillaume Morillon) created a concept for a workshop where people could transform obsolete objects into new products of their choice.

The machines that we’ve built (such as the shredder) were based on the blueprints that Dave Hakkens had developed for his project Precious Plastic.

FAMULA

2016/ 2018

Emerging from the need for a book shelf and a clothes rack in combination with a lack of money to buy both, I designed and built a shelf for myself that would unite both applications:

FAMULA is a modular open storage shelf that also features a pole for hanging clothes, bags or other stuff that usually ends up creating a mess in your room.

The easy to be mounted plug-in construction (no glue,no screw!) lets you decide what kind of style you choose for yourself and gives you the freedom to change your mind any time.

The name FAMULA refers back to its latin origin and means maidservant.

In 2018 I further developed the shelf for the furniture fair Biennale Interieur and added new shelfs made from recycled plastics (produced by Smile Plastics, UK).

Now, the shelf is availabe in 3 different styles:

FAMULA ash (solely made from timber), FAMULA kaleido (shelves made from recycled water bottles & lids) and FAMULA charcoal (shelves made from recycled packaging waste)

ÄGG

2015

A pair of egg cups initially designed for the ”Konstfack Julmarknad" (christmas fair at Konstfack). The egg cups are made from wood (walnut) and come with one hollow for the egg and another slightly shallower one for the egg shells or for serving it with salt.

They also have a slot for a spoon so they become a set of their own to complete the cover of a joyous sunday morning breakfast. This is supported by a very minimalistic and natural design.

A branded sleeve with christmas greeting (”God jul!") was especially designed for the christmas fair.
