converting an old village school to a residential house

Design concept for the restoration and conversion of an old bavarian village school into a residential house with guest rooms. I designed the room arrangement for all three floors as well as the whole interior and custom made furniture. As the building owners live in close contact to nature and attach great importance to sustainability and conserving resources, only natural materials should be used. Furthermore they wished to use as much of the existing structure and materials as possible and have them preserved, restored or reused.
Eventually my thesis consisted of two parts: the research on renovation and modernisation of old buildings as well as the legal framework and a new concept, design and detail plans for the building, its interior and furnishing.
Currently the building is under construction and the concept is being realised step by step.

private room in shared housing

Furnishing concept for a private room in a shared apartment in Munich functioning as a bedroom with a small working area.

Mix of custom made furniture, collected antiques and modern, natural & minimalistic decoration.

The aim was to give the space a slight bohemian touch without being over-designed and crammed with decor.
